The interface device (10) between a data peripheral (14) and a telecommunication network (11) comprises a stationary base unit (19) and a portable hand-held unit (20) of a radiotelephone, which can fit into a mechanical holder (27), the respective halves of an optical interface (25) being provided by the hand-held unit and the holder (27). The latter is provided in an adaptor housing (23), the two halves of the optical interface being brought together by insertion of the hand-held unit. A radio link is maintained between the latter and the base station within a limited range. Pref. the housing of the hand-held unit has an optical window in-front of the electro-optical and opto-electronic interface elements, the corresponding interface elements within the holder being coupled to the data peripheral via a data line.
