The pistol has a hammer with a control assembly (4,5) to place it in use or safety positions. A detent assembly (2,3,6) is settable in safety or release positions. A block stop is formed by a hook (9) or transverse projection (8). It blocks, in its rest position, the hammer or control assembly or prevents the detent assembly moving to an armed position. Alternatively, it can prevent the detent assembly from moving to a release position when the hammer or the control assembly are not in an armed position.
