Optical fault detection appts. for hollow transparent objects such as bottles

The appts. comprises an array of light sources (4) illuminating the outer wall of hollow transparent products such as bottles in a predetermined inspection area such as the rim of the neck. Reflected light is collected by an optical element (8) and directed towards a camera (13) for image analysis by an appropriate system. The angle of incidence of the light striking the object being inspected is defined in terms of the inclination from the horizontal and also from a tangent to the rim of the vessel.
