The cable passage is passed through a seal made in two parts (15,16), and provides paths for the connecting leads from the gas detector. The gas detector is enclosed in a protective metal cover (20), with an opening to allow passage of the cables. The opening is filled with the two-part seal, stacked one on top of the other. The outer part (16) of the seal has a higher elasticity than the inner part. The outer part is made of an elastomer material, and the inner part of polytetrafluoroethylene. Both parts have holes formed to allow passage of the cable. The dimensions of the holes are such that the seal presses tightly against the cables when the seals are pressed into the hole in the detector casing.
