The system includes a network with at least three Doppler beacons (4,5,6). Vehicle speed is detected by correlating the space and time between the Doppler spectral energy received by the beacons. Correlation is performed in the opposite direction to traffic flow with the speed of traffic flow integrated over a time interval. The result of the comparison between the two spectral energies (n,n-1) controls an alarm circuit on deceleration of the vehicle traffic flow. The alarm device can be steady or flashing lights on the beacons. The area is divided into sections along the road containing the beacons. If a beacon does not receive a signal, correlation is performed using the previous spectral energy value.
