The present invention relates to a process for treating textiles. Said textiles are contacted with an aqueous medium comprising a bleach, optionally a metallo catalyst, anionic species and a neutralizing system for said anionic species. Said neutralizing system comprises a quaternary ammonium cation according to formula (I) wherein R1-R4 are independently C1-C6 alkyl, phenyl, hydroxyalkyl or alkoxyalkyl groups. The present invention also relates to compositions suitable for use in said process.
