<p>An orbital rod drive arrangement for an orbital tube whip rod heat exchanger includes a single drive plate (12) driving a plurality of countercranks (18), each countercrank (18) supporting a whip rod (24) from its upper end within a tube (28) as it is driven in an orbital manner. The countercrank (18) provides for balancing the whip rods (24) within the tubes (28) by mounting them in an offset manner. Furthermore, the whip rod (24) is suspended as well as driven at its upper end to thereby leave the lower ends of the tubes (28) unobstructed for the free flow of process fluid out the bottom of the tube (28). The countercrank (18) includes an upper peripheral lip (36) for supporting a single drive plate (12) and the countercrank (18) may be supported by the tube sheet (30) which mounts the uniformly spaced tubes (28) in the heat exchanger vessel.</p> |
