A plant body is raised or regenerated while inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi by using a support which contains a culture medium and a highmolecular substance and in which the culture medium is absorbed in an amount of 10-100 % of the equilibrium medium absorption in a network structure composed of the high-molecular substance. The rates of growth and metabolism of bacteria and fungi are so higher than those of plant bodies that the necessity of bacterial and fungi for supplying nutrients, such as water and sugar, from the medium is remarkably severer than that of plant tissues therefor. In other words, the medium absorbed in the network structure is difficulty available for bacteria and fungi having a high metabolic activity unlike usual liquid media, while it is available for plant tissues having a low metabolic activity to an extent substantially equivalent to that of usual liquid media. As the result, the growth of bacteria and fungi is effectively inhibited without subtantially affecting the raising or regeneration of a plant body. |
