Pick-up and loading apparatus for bale wagon

The pick-up/loader has its pick-up unit (10) mounted to one side of the trailer chassis so that it picks up the bales in a direction parallel to the direction of travel. The bales are then transferred to a pivoted loading platform (5) which tips about a transverse axis to load two bales at a time onto the main floor (3) of the trailer. The pick-up unit comprises an inclined ramp (11) to lift the bales from the ground, and a curved and rising conveyor (12) with driven rollers (30) to transfer the bales to the loading platform. The ramp is equipped with a series of spiked chains (21,22) and driven rollers (26) which disengage the spikes from the bales as they leave the upper end of the ramp. <IMAGE>
