PROCESS FOR PRODUCING POLYPHENYLENESULFIDE

The process for preparation of polyphenylene sulfide by polymerising sodium sulfide and paradichloro benzene in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone : comprises first polymerising. at 230-270 deg.C for 1-20 hrs. and cooling that, then removing the crystalline water by dehydrating at higher temp.; second polymerising under high pressure. at 230-270 deg.C for 1-10 hrs.. The obtd. polyphenylene sulfide has more than 2000 poise of the melting viscosity, and excellent heat resistance and chemical resistance, then is useful for injection molding to prepare films and fibers.
