<p>PURPOSE:To measure the distance to a preceding vehicle only for the lane on which a measuring vehicle travels. CONSTITUTION:A radar distance measuring means 1 measures the distance to a preceding vehicle, along with the direction thereof, using a scanning radar mounted on the vehicle. A video camera 2 mounted on the vehicle picks up the image of road in front of the vehicle and a detecting means 3 detects lane markers written on the pavement using a road image picked up by means of the video camera 2 thus detecting the traveling lane. Means 4 then makes a decision whether a preceding vehicle, detected through the traveling lane detecting means 3, is traveling on the same lane and measures the distance to the preceding vehicle only for the same lane.</p> |
