PURPOSE: To enable to produce argon at a specific yield in case of collecting liquid oxygen and nitrogen products at a specific rate or more by rectifying compressed air and arranging the processes of precooling the compressed air to an adequate temperature for rectification by heat exchanging it with the return product flow. CONSTITUTION: A stream of air is compressed in a compressor 2, purified in a unit 4 and the resulting air flow A is cooled in a heat exchanger 6 and is separated in an arrangement of rectification columns comprising a higher pressure rectification column 12, a lower pressure rectification column 26, and a further rectification column 34 for separating oxygen, nitrogen and argon. A second cooled, compressed, purified air stream B is expanded in an expansion turbine 82 and is introduced into the lower pressure rectification column 34. A third cooled, compressed, purified air stream C is expanded in a second expansion turbine 86 and is introduced into the higher pressure rectification column 12. A fourth compressed, purified air stream D is expanded in a third expansion turbine 86 and is introduced into the higher pressure rectification column 12. Therefore, the collecting yield of the argon is improved in producing the liquid nitrogen product.
