PURPOSE:To attain background generation of excellent precision by distinguishing a background area and a mobile object existence area, and changing the updating method of a background image. CONSTITUTION:An image is inputted (100), and the input image is processed first by a mean value filter so that loop-back is not caused, and next, it is thinned by a thinning filter 101, and a processed picture is generated. The processed image thinned by the thinning filter 101 is stored in a background memory 102, and the input image thinned by the thinning filter 101 and the image stored in the background memory 102 are processed by a difference absolute value processing circuit 105, and is written in a difference value memory 106. Then, after difference absolute value processing in the difference absolute value processing circuit 105, a binarized image obtained by a binarization processing part 117 is processed by a median filter 107. Further, the result of processing by the median filter 107 is processed by a masking processing part 108 by using a predetermined masking pattern 109, and an area is limited. |
