PERPENDICULAR MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND MAGNETIC RECORDER

PURPOSE:To obtain a perpendicular magnetic recording medium having remarkably improved orientation property of a perpendicularly magnetized film. CONSTITUTION:A perpendicularly magnetized film 12 and a protective film 13 are formed on a single crystal substrate 11. A (0001) face single crystal of a material having a hexagonal crystal structure or a (111) face single crystal of a material having a cubic crystal structure is used as the substrate 11 and the perpendicularly magnetized film 12 is formed by epitaxial growth so that the axis of easy magnetization is made perpendicular to the surface of the substrate 11. The perpendicular orientation property and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of the resultant perpendicular magnetic recording medium are improved and a high density perpendicular magnetic recording is enabled.
