PURPOSE:To enable optical coupling of light from an optical fiber or semiconductor laser at high efficiency to a polymer optical waveguide element which can be produced at a low cost in a large area. CONSTITUTION:A polymer optical coupling waveguide 1 is formed on the main optical waveguide 6 containing an optical waveguide layer 2. In this method, photopolymerizable monomers, or photocrosslinking or photopolymerizable polymer, or a mixture of these is applied on the main optical waveguide 6 and exposed to light through a mask to set the polymer optical coupling waveguide 1. Further, the area which does not react is removed with a proper solvent. |
