PURPOSE: To obtain a limiter using a reduced length high temperature superconducting material by employing a composite high temperature superconducting rod material or pipe constituted with specific weight ratio glass and a specific superconducting oxide and having a dispersion unit capacity output less than a specific value during a transition stage. CONSTITUTION: The invention is a superconducting current limiter which is constituted with a composite high temperature superconducting rod material or pipe comprising glass and a superconducting oxide, and using a rod material or pipe satisfyingρ>10<-4>Ω.m, jc >10<+5> A/m<2> ,ρ×(5jc )<2> <10<11> W/m<3> when there are definedρas sepcific resistance of a raw mateiral upon ono-supercondution, jc as a critical current density, andρ×(5jc )<2> as a unit capacity output dissipated into the rod or pipe during the transition stagde when the critical density is defined as that which produces 10<-4> V/m electric field over the entire length of the rod or pipe and limitation is assumed to be performed upon current density 5 times the critical density.d Further, the superconducting oxide is Bi2 Sr2 Ca2 Cu3 Oy type, and y is about 10. |
