A method for producing packaging containers comprises moulding thermoplastic material into a hollow pre-form (1) with the desired container shape, heating the material to its softening temperature and shaping the pre-form by applying a pressure difference.The pre-form is made from a sheet of material which is wound to form a case (3) containing a length direction welded joint (9) and a base plate (18) welded to one end of the case. Packaging containers made by welding a base section (4) into the bottom of one of these cases are also claimed.
