<p>PURPOSE:To improve the electrical performance of a molded joint of cables by reducing the water content of the joint by providing a process for heating the joint. CONSTITUTION:Before joining cables to each other by molding by penciling the insulators 6 of the cables, the parts of the cables to be joined to each other are preheated with a heater 1. This heating is performed with the object of volatilizing or decomposing most of cumyl alcohol in the insulators 6 and, at the same time, removing the water of the insulators 6. Then a reinforcing insulating layer 10 is provided in the ordinary way and the insulators 6 are molded at a high temperature by crosslinking the layer 10 by heating the layer 10. Therefore, the joint section is heated to decompose and evaporate the cumyl alcohol generated from the crosslinked insulator 10 and, in addition, to dry the whole body of the joint section. Therefore, the electrical performance of the molded joint can be improved, because the water content considered to be one factor of deteriorating the withstand voltage characteristic of molded joints can be reduced.</p> |
