PURPOSE:To enlarge the range of photographing condition capable of detecting focus and to improve focus detecting accuracy. CONSTITUTION:In this focus detector, a luminous flux for detecting focus which passes through a photographing lens 1 by a focus detecting optical system 2a is led to the matrix of photoelectric converting element and the focusing state of the photographing lens 1 is detected based on a signal for detecting focus which is outputted from the matrix of the photoelectric converting element, and the detector is provided with a light diffusing member 2b having light diffusing characteristic, a driving means 2c inserting and retreating the member 2b in/from the optical path of the luminous flux for detecting focus, a control means 101 controlling the insertion and the retreat of the member 2b based on the condition in the case of detecting focus. |
