The invention concerns a piston machine such as an internal combustion engine, with at least one cylinder within which a piston connected to the crankshaft (1) can reciprocate; the crankshaft (1) is connected to at least two cam discs (8 ), each of which has a control contour (9) and rotates with the crankshaft. These cams act as actuating units on at least one counterweight (16.1, 16.2) and the counterweights (16.1, 16.2) are guided in accordance with the direction of turn of the crankshaft in such a way that they can reciprocate.
