A thermal printing sheet (22) unwound from a paper feed roll (22a) is interposed between a roller (4) and a thermal head unit comprising a radiator plate (6) and a carrier (7) of a row of heating elements. The ends of the roller (4) rotate in two supporting plates (1) while contact pressure is maintained by a leaf spring (8). A lever (12) moves the head unit (6, 7) in a direction away from the force of the spring (8) to release it from the roller (4). ADVANTAGE - Recording head and roller can be positioned precisely w.r.t. each other by simple mechanism.
