Detecting level of molten metals

The level of metal in a dosing furnace is maintained by an arrangement of a sensor (3) which forms a contact surface, inserted in an electrically insulating wall (4) of the furnace or a riser pipe (1) located within the furnace. The sensor consists of an electrically conducting ceramic and fits snugly in the wall by being adhesively bonded or soldered. It has a long side parallel to the metal surface. When fitted in the riser pipe, the pipe is located in an inclined position and the sensor is placed in an upper region, free from deposits.
