The position measurement device involves a support (13) extending over part of the circumference of a rotation stamping cylinder (3) which carries a measurement device (15) that can be radially applied to a stamping rod (2). The support is a sliding shoe which extends over approximately 40 to 100 degrees and preferably over 60 degrees of the circumference of the rotation cylinder. The support contacts the rotation cylinder surface (11) at its leading and trailing edges in the circumferential direction. It has a slot (12) extending in this direction whose width corresp. at least to the diameter of the stamping rod, and it has a measurement sensor with a spherical contact part (18).
