A method of protection from unauthorised code conversion of device-specific encodings is proposed. The encodings are stored in a memory, which can be overwritten, of a microprocessor circuit of an electronic device. If, and only if, protection from code conversion is desired, a freely selectable secret encoding is written to the memory of the microprocessor circuit of a code connector of the device, using an input keyboard of the device. Code conversion is then only possible if the secret encoding has previously been entered into the device using the code connector, and agrees with the secret encoding which is stored in it.
