The high stretchable elastic yarn is produced by melt spinning a block copolymer of polybutylene terephthalate type polyester as a hard segment and polyoxybutylene glycol type polyether as a soft segment to yield a monofilament, heat treating the filament at 50˜160deg.C for 10˜50sec, first drawing it at 50˜100deg.C 4˜6 times as long, first relax heat treating it at 100˜160deg.C for 10˜50sec., second drawing it at 50˜100deg.C 1˜3 times as long, and second relax heat treating it at 50˜160deg.C for 50˜100sec. The elastic yarn has a good elasticity recovering ratio and strength, is used for lingerie swimming suits and gymnastic suits.
