The method uses a spacer and an adjuster which together form a length-adjustable adapter and the adjuster can be set so that the interval between hatch cover (10) and hatch rim (1) is closed off without clearance, after which cover and spacer are welded to one another. The spacer is coupled to the adjuster and placed in position by a vertical guide (9), using a pressure screw (4) as adjuster or again a sheet clamped between guides. A sealing compound or filler (5) is arranged between support plate (3) and hatch rim and the spacer consists of support plate, pressure piece (12) and plate (11), using parallel rails as guides. Otherwise, guidance is provided by a recess at the hatch rim area or alternatively at the hatch cover. The support plate (3) can adjust in relation to the rim (1) and the pressure plate can adjust in relation to the hatch cover.
