CARRIER OF IC HANDLER

A carrier used for an IC handler for conveying devices to be tested. Even when devices have narrow lead pitches, this carrier can easily and stably carry and position them. Two contact holes having an elongated shape and substantially parallel to each other are formed in the bottom of a box-shaped body whose upper surface is open, in a gap corresponding to the gap of lead pin arrangements of two lines of lead pins of the devices to be accommodated therein. Each contact hole has a length corresponding to the length of each lead pin arrangement and has a width capable of accommodating each lead pin arrangement. Carrier guides are formed in the proximity of both ends of each contact hole in the longitudinal direction in such a manner as to protrude upward by a predetermined height from the bottom of the box-shaped body. The length between the side surfaces of these carrier guides is selected so that the devices can be accommodated between their opposed side surfaces in a direction transversely crossing the contact holes. On the other hand, a socket for applying electrical signals to the device has two rows of socket terminals in the same number and with the same pitch as those of each lead pin arrangement of the device, with substantially the same gap as the gap between the contact holes, and a thin sheet-like insulating member is interposed between adjacent socket terminals of each socket terminal arrangement. The socket terminal is fitted into the contact hole during the test and is electrically connected to the lead pins of the device.
