A method for desorbing a hydrophobic protein, such as a lipase, from a carrier comprises treating a preparation comprising the hydrophobic protein immobilized by adsorption on a hydrophobic polymeric carrier with a desorption liquid comprising water, a water-miscible organic solvent and an alkali. The enzymatic activity of an immobilized lipase preparation which has wholly or partly lost its activity may be restored by such a desorption treatment followed by a readsorption treatment with fresh lipase. Immobilized lipase preparations regenerated in this manner are well suited as catalysts in, for example, the synthesis, hydrolysis or interesterification of esters. |
