A compressive force measuring system for e.g. the wheelnuts of a motorvehicle employs a flat circular washer below each nut in which a transverse hole is bored parallel to the plane of the washer. An electrode assembly (9, 10) has an external connection from the electrode (10) via the contact disc (15) and the capacitor assembly thus formed is sealed by the insulating plugs (14). The gap (12) is filled with an expanded plastic foam and the remaining space with silicone rubber. Compressive force on the washer due to tightening the nut on the wheelstuds closes the gap (12) resulting in a capacity change which indexes the force.
