APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR USE IN THE FIRING OF CERAMIC SHEETS

There is described a refractory holder (20) for use in retaining one or more ceramic sheets (10) during the firing of the sheets from a green state to a sintered state. The holder comprises a first member having a first setting surface (12) and a second member having a second setting surface (22). The second setting surface is opposed and spaced parallel to the first setting surface so as to define therebetween a volume for the receipt of one or more ceramic sheets. Spacing means is provided to retain the first and second setting surface in their spaced relationship and holding means (36) is provided to hold the first and second members against any forces applied by the or each of the sheets during firing. A method of firing one or more ceramic sheets (10) is also described.
