The appts. to feed additional welding material through one or more paired rollers, in wire or rod form, has a profiled drive roller and a matching counter roller which is structured so that they mesh into each other if the cross section of the feed material is less than the profile depth between the rollers. Also claimed is the operation of the device where the feed material passes through an entry sleeve into the feed assembly, and is advanced through a friction grip by the drive and counter rollers to an outlet sleeve to the work point.
