To lay a sliver of textile fibres in a flat can, loops (51) are formed in the sliver (5) with an outer width taking up 75-85% of the can (6) width across its longitudinal axis. A deviation in the laid loops (51) towards a longitudinal wall of the flat can (6) is effected by a higher speed in the relative movement of the outlet opening (211) of the rotating head (2) and the flat can (6). Also claimed is an appts. with a further system to slide the rotating head (2) in relation to the flat can (6) across the main sliding line and only at the ends of the straight main sliding line. The gap between the outlet opening (211) in the rotation head (2) and the rotary axis is less than one-half the width of the inner zone of the can (6).
