An electrical connector (50) comprising a housing (10) and contacts (20) having the same configuration for both male and female halves. The contact (20) includes a male contact (21) and a female contact (22) joined by a removable ground-contacting section (23). The ground-contacting section (23) is removed when the contact (20) is used as a signal contact. Contacts (20) are arranged inside the housing (10) selectively as grounding contacts and signal contacts. The housing (10) has a grounding surface (13), and the ground contacting section (23) forms electrical contact with the grounding surface. When the electrical connector (50) is joined with a matching connector, the grounding male contacts (21), the grounding female contacts (22) and the grounding surface surround signal contacts, thus preventing cross-talk. |
