The invention relates to a method for joining a metallic connector to an electrode with spongy support for electrochemical generator, according to which, starting from the said support possessing a porosity greater than 90%, the support is loaded with active material and is compressed in order to alter its thickness, characterised in that use is made of a connector (3, 7, 12, 15) made of expanded metal or perforated strip with a hole factor greater than 40% and which is arranged on either side of the said support (1), loaded with active material and in that the operation of compressing the support is used to make the said connector penetrate into this support.
