A device for the magnetic treatment of water circulating in a pipe comprises calcium carbonate encouraged to crystallise in the form of uniaxial aragonite, which does not encrust pipes, at the expense of triaxial calcite or dolomite, which do cause pipes to fur up. Two pairs of permanent magnets (2 and 3) are arranged either side of the pipe (c) in which water is circulating (F1), and clamped in place with a magnetically isolated bracket. The upstream pair of magnets (2) have opposite polarity and the downstream pair (3) have the same polarity. Also claimed is a process for the magnetic treatment of water in a pipe.
