The rear end (1) of the contact element is conventional with an insulation claw (7) and a conductor claw (8). The transition portion (2) leads into a U-shaped spring arm base (3) with a floor (4) and two sidewalls (e.g. 5) with spring arms (e.g. 10) converging towards contact points (9). The two opposite locking edges (18) extend at right angles to the length of the element and can be engaged by a transverse locking slider (19) on at least four transverse edges of the element, or alternatively on two edges if the slider is arranged at an angle to them.
