Pyrolysis of organic waste, esp. used tyres

The wastes (1) are introduced to the molten Al bath (7) and at least the carbonised solid residue (C) is ground after extn. to a predetermined particle size of 40 microns or less. This is graded, pref. by an air classification process. Metal components (Al) extracted from the bath with the solid residue (C) are sepd. during milling and/or classification and may, if required, be returned to the bath. Ferromagnetic components (Fe) are removed from the solid residues (C, Al) by magnetic separators before milling. The plant to carry out the above process is also claimed.
