Bags especially carrier bags are made from a continuous flattened tube of plastics film (7) which is unwound from a coil (1). The flattened tube passes through a first printer where one side of the tube is printed on and then through a second printer where the second side is printed on. The flattened tube then passes through a station (3) in which the tube is inflated. It is then pressed flat along fold lines which form the centre-lines of the surfaces of the original flat tube. The reflattened tube is then cut and welded to form bags. Each side of each bag then displays the same pattern which consists of one half printed at the first printer and the second half printed at the second printer.
