<p>A pipette tip rack loader (1) is disclosed that will load a flat (90) of pipette tips (92) into a rack (102) for use on a laboratory bench. The flat (90) for the pipette tips (92) is substantially the same dimensions as the top surface of the tip rack (102) to be loaded, and has an identical hole pattern so that the ends of the tips loaded in the flat (90) can be positioned one-to-one in the holes of the tip rack (102). The loader consists of an upper platform (18) and a lower platform or base (12) that holds the unloaded tip rack (102). The upper platform (18) is biased in a first position sufficiently high enough above the tip rack (102) that the tips (92) do not hit the rack (102). The upper platform (18) can be depressed so that the tips (92) in the flat thread into the tip rack holes. As the upper platform (18) nears the tip rack (102), the flat (90) is released from the upper platform (18) to rest on the tip rack (102) with the tips (92) registered in the rack (102). Several flats (90 and 94) with tips (92 and 96) may be positioned in the loader (10) with tips (96) in the upper flats. The loader (10) operates such that only one flat (90) is released at a time.</p> |
