TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND RECEIVER WITH POLARIZATION CONTROL

In a transmission system a signal generated by a transmitter (2) is transported by a channel (4) to a polarization-sensitive receiver (6). For optimizing the state of polarization of the received signal, the state of polarization of the received signal is changed by the polarization adapting means (8) until the received state of polarization corresponds to the desired state of polarization. For adapting the direction in which the polarization is to be adapted, the signal generators (22...26) effect polarization variations whose influence on the output signal is measured by the measuring means (30). For avoiding the polarization control being disturbed by slow variations in the input signal of the receiver (6), the measuring means (30) comprise a band-pass filter to suppress these variations.
