Processing of unsorted plastic scrap into finished or semi-finished products

In a process for mfg. finished or semi-finished products from unsorted plastics, the shredded thermoplastic is compounded, rolled and granulated. Fillers are added to the granulate and the mixture compressed at 1-10 MPa and 150-200 deg C for 15-30 mins. to form the product. Pref. compounding is effected at a mixing chamber temp. of 80-100 deg C and a homogenising screw speed of 70-100 rev/mins. giving a mixing temp. of 120-140 deg C. The scrap plastic is essentially thermoplastic with a density less than one. Compounding additives are stearic acid or electrically conductive carbon black. Fillers may be regrowable natural materials, textile scrap and natural or synthetic fleeces.
