Process for reducing soot emissions from underground diesel engines

Soot emissions from diesel locomotives and trolleys used underground are reduced by an arrangement of a water-cooled exhaust system, -exhaust manifold and -labyrinth in the exhaust box together with a nozzle (7) in the bend (3) for spraying water into the exhaust gas before it enters the pipe connecting the exhaust manifold pipe (2) and the exhaust box (5). Soot-binding substance, pref. tenside, or soot-dissolving substance, pref. N-methylpyrrolidone, is added to the water before spraying. Sprayed water is collected in a condenser (13) and returned to the storage tank (11).
