Life preserver collar for use in preventing drowning and to be worn continuously by an individual around the neck, consisting of two symmetrically, almost identical independent elements (21, 21) connected together as an extension of each other to form the collar; the elements (21, 21) being separable from each other at a reciprocal joint so as to enable the collar to be put around the neck of the user. The inflatable assembly (24, 24) of each independent element (21) comprises essentially a solid frame shaped as a semicircle which is a container frame (22) filled with compressed air, an expansible envelope (24), and an apparatus (25) to lock and unlock the collar, and in the event of an emergency to deliver the compressed air from the frame container (22) into the inflatable envelope (24). The inflatable assembly (24, 24) of both independent elements will be simultaneously activated by a control member (88) when the individual who carries the collar activates the control member (88).
