A double action mechanical press (10), especially for cupping operations in which an outer slide (52) is provided within which an inner slide (72) is reciprocally mounted on a common crankshaft (28). According to the present invention, a single dynamic balancer (80), out of phase from both the inner (72) and outer slides (52), is provided on the crankshaft (28), in order to counterbalance the inertial forces generated by the inner and outer slides during press operation.
