A process for producing microcapsules of a sparingly water-soluble drug (a hydrophobic substance) and a microcapsular composition. It has been difficult to microencapsulate a readily decomposable drug by the conventional heating method. The invention process comprises dispersing a liquid mixture composed of an isocyanate compound and a hydrophobic substance in an aqueous solution of a hydroxylated polymer dispersant to form an emulsion, reacting the isocyanate compound with water at or below 40 DEG C, and forming a microcapsular coating from the urea resin, etc., thus formed, thereby providing microcapsular slurry and powder. This process facilitates microencapsulation of readily decomposable drugs and imparts a prolonged stability to unstable drugs. The process also provides a microcapsular composition at a low cost.
|
