PURPOSE:To enhance an image recording grade by holding the positional interval between an ink jet recording head and a recording medium to a specific range and suppressing the undulation phenomenon of a recording medium generated by an ink droplet. CONSTITUTION:In the platen 34 opposed to the ink jet recording head 7 held on a carriage through a recording medium P (P0-P2), the flat surface part supporting the recording medium P in opposed relation to ink emitting orifices in an image recording region and the surface part arranged on the downstream side of the image recording region in the feed direction of the recording medium P and extending in the direction spaced apart from the ink emitting orifices toward the feed direction are formed. The angle formed by the flat surface part of the platen 34 and the surface of the extended part thereof is set to 3.7-7.5 deg.. The end part of the surface part of the platen 34 on the downstream side in the feed direction of the recording medium P is provided so as to guide the recording medium at the position spaced apart from the position of the extended part of the flat surface part of the platen 34 by 0.4-0.8mm.
