A method for producing a substituted pyridine derivative of the formula (II): <IMAGE> (II) wherein each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl group, and m is an integer of from 1 to 3, which comprises reducing a substituted trichloromethylpyridine derivative of the formula (I): <IMAGE> (I) wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are as defined above, with use of acetic acid, hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid, as a proton donor, and zinc, tin or a mixture thereof, as a reducing agent.
