PURPOSE:To conduct recording and reproducing of high-density information by a super-high resolution effect without increasing the film thickness of a mask layer by incorporating photochromic dyestuff exhibiting a special reaction into the mask layer. CONSTITUTION:This optical recording medium is provided with the mask layer 102 on the side of a recording layer 103 where reproducing light is made incident. The photochromic dyestuff is incorporated into the mask layer 102. The photochromic dyestuff has absorption in the wavelength region of reproducing light in the two stable states reversibly realized by a photochromic reaction. The molecules of the one state absorb the reproducing light and change the molecules of the other state. The molecules of the other state absorb the reproducing light and impart the energy thereof to the molecules of the one state. As a result, the molecules of the one state change to the molecules of the other state by this energy. Then, the efficiency of the photochromic reaction is made higher than the efficiency in ordinary reaction and the transmittance of the mask layer 103 when irradiated with the reproducing light is increased. |
