摘要 PURPOSE:To generate image data on which a saturation component in a high lightness section and a low lightness section is reflected by compressing the lightness component of input color image data so as to compress the saturation component. CONSTITUTION:An RGB signal for each television picture element is converted into Luv* by a RGB Luv* conversion section 11. The L*, u*, v* are converted into L*', u*', v*' by a gradation compression section 13 and a saturation compression section 15 according to a predetermined map ping constant function to compress the lightness and saturation. Then R' G' B' signals are obtained by a Luv* RGB conversion section 17. The component sections as above are realized by a table conversion memory ROM 10. The R' G' B' signals are converted into density signals C, M, Y by a logarithmic transformation ROM 20 and a masking section 30 converts them into digital signals Vc, Vm, Vy with a head drive voltage corresponding to them. Moreover, D/A converter sections 40C, 40M, 40Y are used to convert them into head drive analog voltages, which are used to drive an ink jet head.
