PURPOSE:To provide an image forming apparatus detecting the shift of a head accurately when the head is replaced. CONSTITUTION:Predetermined patterns are printed by a plurality of heads 103 under the control of a head control part 105 and read by a sensor 111 to be detected by a pattern detection part 106 and the widths of the detected patterns are detected by a pattern width detection part 107. The positions of the center dots of the detected patterns are calculated by a CPU 109 and the widths between the patterns of a standard head and the width between the patterns of other head are calculated from the positions of the center dots of the patterns and the shift quantity of the heads is calculated on the basis of the difference between both widths. |
